"On June 26th - Armed Forces Day - Nigel Moreland, Carl "Chuckles" Boswell, PJ Luard and support runner Paul Kinsey crossed the finishing line at Land's End after an epic 851 mile run from John O'Groats. They completed this gruelling feat in just 17 days, sometimes running the equivalent of a double marathon a day. They did it in memory of their friend Captain Mark Hale, who was killed in Afghanistan last August, to raise money for injured soldiers and bereaved families. If you would like to make a donation to this noble cause, please clink the 'donate' tab and help make a difference to the lives of our soldiers." Please visit our Facebook page for more information about the run.

‘’...Captain Hale was by all accounts a truly great soldier, driven to get things done. So what better way to remember his life and service than by organising a seventeen-day run from John O'Groats to Land's End? Running a double marathon every day for seventeen days is an incredible thing to take on and try to accomplish. But by the sounds of it, that wouldn’t have stopped Captain Hale. And then of course, there is the way these servicemen are taking on this task to help others - in the finest traditions of our Armed Forces, and in line with the great sacrifice Captain Hale made with his own life. I am delighted to give my support to this project and the fantastic causes it is helping. And to the three men taking on this mammoth mission: good luck!”

Prime Minister David Cameron

April 2010

On June 10 2010, Lt Col Nigel Moreland, Major Carl “Chuckles” Boswell and PJ Luard (a former Army officer) will start the run of their lives. It will take them 851 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End in just 17 days - that’s a double marathon a day.

They aim to reach the finishing line on June 26 – Armed Forces day – and hope to raise £100,000 for Help for Heroes, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and The Rifles Regimental Trust. The run will take them across towns and cities throughout the UK with evening receptions at venues including Edinburgh, Manchester and Birmingham and the poignant streets of Wootton Bassett.

The Motivation:

Nigel, Carl and PJ were all close friends of Captain Mark Hale. He was killed as he attempted to rescue an injured soldier while serving in Afghanistan with 2 RIFLES in August 2009. He was 42 and left behind his adored wife Brenda, and their daughters Tori, 16, and Alix, 8.

Hale was ‘undentable’ – a word coined by his Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Rob Thompson, when no other word sufficiently captured the essence of the man.

But the Undentable Run is about more than Mark. He is just one of hundreds of British soldiers who have given their lives fighting for their country. Carl says:

"Clearly the catalyst for all this was the death of my dear friend. Mark has inspired us to do this run in honour of his sacrifice and that of so many other soldiers and their families. We can't change terrible events, but we can do something to help by providing financial support to those organisations and charities which fight quietly in the background, helping our stoic and brave soldiers and their families to cope. We can make a difference."

Help for Heroes

Help for Heroes raises money to support members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country. They ask their supporters to “do their bit” to show these extraordinary young men and women that they are cared for by us. Since launching in 2007, they have raised £46.817 million, changing the lives of thousands – but they need more.

ABF – The Soldiers’ Charity

Gives lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families, giving them down-to-earth help and friendship, with no hassle or bureaucracy. That’s what they’ve been here to offer for 66 years, raising £7 million a year to meet this need. As a result of Current Operations it is anticipated that the requests for assistance will rise significantly in the coming years. It is the aim of The Soldiers’ Charity to increase fundraising to £14 million a year by 2015 to be sure that we can help each and every soldier that needs our help. www.soldierscharity.org

The RIFLES Regimental Trust

The RIFLES regiment is is the largest infantry regiment in the British Army and has suffered huge losses in the Afghan conflict. The funds raised from this appeal are dedicated to support the immediate, medium and long term care of Rifles' casualties and their families.

There are two ways you can donate – by visiting Just Giving or by cheque. All donations are being split three ways between Help for Heroes, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and The Rifles Regimental Charity.

Please make cheques payable to ‘Central Bank London’ marking your envelope with ‘Undentable Run’.
